About The Wild Crossing
The Wild Crossing is intentional travel for people who want to see the places most itineraries skip.
Built from western Colorado and carried everywhere else, this project is about side roads, local stays, overlooked details, and the feeling of a place after the crowds move on.
Why This Exists
Most travel content tells people where to go.
The Wild Crossing is more interested in how a place feels once you get there.
Some places are being loved to death. Others are being forgotten completely. The difference is not whether people travel. It is how they show up when they do.
Tourism revenue keeps small towns, local restaurants, independent hotels, guides, and wild places alive. This project exists somewhere between exploration and stewardship.
Showing up matters more than showing off.
About Melissa

I am a writer, photographer, and creator based on Colorado’s western slope.
I started The Wild Crossing after realizing the trips that stayed with me most were rarely the loudest or most famous ones. They were usually the places between destinations. The side roads. The overlooked towns. The quiet details almost everyone walked past.
Since then, I’ve documented places across Scotland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Alaska, Canada, and the American West through short-form video, writing, photography, and longform storytelling.
The goal is not to collect destinations. It is to notice them properly.
